In the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks, eight volunteers from the Outer Banks, including Matt Artz, traveled to New York City October 20-25, 2001 to help with ongoing disaster relief efforts by cooking donated food for the workers at Ground Zero.
They set up 2 giant pig-cookers on the side of Canal Street and cooked thousands of pounds of donated beef and chicken over 5 days nonstop.
They also brought with them thousands of pounds of donated North Carolina-style pork barbeque that the group had prepared prior to the trip.
“From One” is an original song written and performed by Matt Artz, recoreded on an analog 4-track circa 2002. This video (and Facebook Gallery) is a small tribute to that journey, featuring Matt’s images captured on a pocket-sized Kodak film camera, as we remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
