Maggie & Paul, October 10, 2010 -
Our Story:
Paul says – “After bugging my cousin Joe and his now wife Pam to hook me up, they did the impossible… They found me the love of my life. Pam gave me Maggie’s e-mail address, so I sent her a message. One thing led to another and we met on Groundhog Day at TGIFriday’s”
Maggie says - “Pam and I coached softball together and she told me she thought her Fiance Joe’s cousin would be a good fit for me. I wasn’t really interested in being set up but agreed that she could give him my email address. Paul emailed me on a Monday and we met for the first time the following Friday, Groundhog Day. A couple weeks later, Paul admitted that he had ‘winked’ at me on Match.com months before and I had never responded – looking back we laugh at that.”
Paul - “We continued talking and had our rough times, but for some reason she stuck around with me. A year after we met I moved back home, and ended up getting a job in Fredericksburg about an hour and half away.”
Maggie - “When Paul got a job so far away I thought that it was going to be the end of our relationship, but after he moved there, the city really grew on me. Since we started dating I always thought Paul and I could have a future together and get married and over the next year we talked about it a lot.”
Paul - “Maggie talked about getting married a lot! Soon I realized that Maggie was really the woman for me. I didn’t tell her, but I convinced her to look at buying a house with me. We found a lovely home on Super Bowl Sunday 2009 and we moved in the following April.”
Maggie - “Buying a house was a huge commitment to me and I had my doubts about it. Paul seemed so confident and even talked about all our kids filling up the rooms of the house. Moving in together officially confirmed for me that this was the man I wanted to spend my life with. He even told his parents on Father’s Day that they would have to change their vacation plans for 2010 because we’d be getting married.”
Paul - “I purchased an engagement ring from a local jeweler who custom made the whole thing a couple months after we moved in. I didn’t know when I would propose, but I figured I would do it sometime around Halloween. I decided to meet with her father and asked him for his daughter’s hand. John said yes and a week later I proposed to Maggie at sunset while fishing on the Atlantic Ocean just off shore of Hatteras Island. The sun was descending over the sand dunes and Maggie said, ‘Yes!’”
Maggie - “We’d been out fishing for a few hours when the Mate said that we would have to bring in the lines and head in. I was at the back of the boat helping reel them in when the Captain yelled down to Paul “Are you ready to catch a keeper?” I was shaking and don’t remember what he said, I just remember thinking, ‘this is it!’ and crying. It was so perfect!!!
It was only fitting that we got married in the Outer Banks a year later. Surrounded by family and friends we tied the knot at Coquina Beach on 10-10-10.
And as they say… we lived happily ever after!”
